Learning Opportunities
Minecraft creates opportunity for so much learning. As a homeschool mother, I have been happy to use the game to further our studies.
When we began a history study about fires that happened around the world, I found a map building studio built a Minecraft adventure map that reenacted the London Fire of 1666. It seemed like a great way to break out of our normal studies and drop my kids in to seeing how it this particular fire progressed. And since we had also started our YouTube channel to introduce videography, content creating, editing, etc. It only made sense that we combine it all together.
The amazing thing that has happened from incorporating game play in to our lessons is that my kids remember the events vividly. While we have fun in our video game playing, it made a lasting impact. My children are older now and when they look back on the game play, they recognize the impact the real life events must have had on the community. They realize how traumatic that must have been for those people experiencing it and the frustration of those who tried to help. I know that this can happen from simply reading about events as well but I really enjoy how game play can be used as a resource for learning.
You are more than welcome to get the map yourself and try it out. You will need Minecraft Java to play the map. My video descriptions have all the links and information you need to find the map.
Below is a link to the London Fire Adventure Map Playlist from my YouTube channel. Come along with us as we learn more about everything that happened during that time and try to help save London.
